iCAN is dedicated to providing a challenging learning environment that is child centered and well balanced. Our curriculum planning takes into account the individual needs of all our pupils. Each class follows a daily schedule that caters for every type of learner and is designed to stimulate and develop a variety of interests within each child, allowing them to reach their full potential. We regularly review and evaluate our planning to ensure we provide the very best education possible.
Our comprehensive teaching programme is based on the English National Curriculum and is designed to prepare children to enter their next school with all the social and academic skills they require. The curriculum is divided into four stages:
· Early Years Foundation Stage (2-5 years) - Nursery 1, 2 and Reception
· Key Stage 1 (5-7 years) - Year 1 and Year 2
· Key Stage 2 (7-11 years) - Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
· Key Stage 3 (11-13 years) - Year 7 (2007-2008)

English is the language of instruction at iCAN, but foreign language classes in French, Chinese and Khmer are offered as part of the daily curriculum. The choice of foreign language offered to particular year groups depends on interest. A foreign language is defined as a language other than a child's native language. Children from Year 1 upwards may select one language to study, but if a child is assessed as needing English as an Additional Language support, they will attend EAL classes during the foreign language time. They may take up a foreign language once their English is assessed as being of a good enough standard.
