iCAN has a responsibility to provide a curriculum that meets the specific needs of all individuals and groups of pupils. Our EAL programme aims to ensure that students from language backgrounds other than English have access to the same educational opportunities as other pupils in the school.
The EAL programme aims to build up a pupil's knowledge and understanding of English vocabulary and to develop reading and writing skills. The programme relates closely to that of the mainstream class, providing concept development relating to classroom topics.
The progress of EAL pupils is closely monitored on a daily basis as well as through a formal written report by the classroom teacher and the EAL teacher. A written EAL report is given to parents twice each academic year along with the child's main report.
