The Primary School

We aim to provide a top-class academic and after-school programme to children aged between 5 and 11 years - Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 of the British National Curriculum.

All children entering our School will be given the opportunity to develop and extend the skills they have already acquired in modern, well-resourced and purpose-built facilities under the expert guidance of fully qualified and experienced international teaching staff. The majority of our teachers are British.

Other objectives of the school include:

The teachers in Key Stage 1 aim to create a happy, safe and challenging environment for the children, stimulating them academically whilst allowing happy and social interaction with each other and the adults who care for them. Pupils in Year 1 and 2 have a longer and more structured day. Planning is again based around short 'topics' which provide a cross-curricular basis for learning. Literacy and Mathematics are also taught separately for about one hour per day. National Curriculum subjects taught in Key Stage 1 are:

  • Literacy
  • Computing
  • Physical Education
  • Mathematics
  • History
  • Swimming
  • Science
  • Geography
  • Personal, Social, Health & Citizenship Education
  • Art and Design
  • Music
  • Foreign Languages

Children will follow Programmes of Study based on the British National Curriculum Key Stage 2 (7-11 years). The subjects taught are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • I.C.T.
  • Design and Technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Modern Foreign Languages
  • Art and Design
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Swimming
  • Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education

Core subjects are taught discretely as well as through cross-curricular topic work. Support classes will be provided for children who are assessed as having Additional Educational Needs (A.E.N.).

Six Key Skill areas will be developed through our planning in every curriculum subject. They are described as Key Skills because they help learners to improve their learning and performance in education, work and life. These skills are embedded in the National Curriculum and are as follows:

  • Communication
  • Working with others
  • Application of number
  • Improving own learning and performance
  • Information technology
  • Problem solving

We also strive to develop 'Thinking Skills' in all our children. By using thinking skills, pupils can focus on 'knowing how' as well as 'knowing what' - essentially learning how to learn. The following thinking skills complement the key skills and are embedded in the National Curriculum:

  • Information processing skills
  • Creative thinking skills
  • Reasoning skills
  • Evaluation skills
  • Enquiry skills
