Flowers and Insects

MP1 had to get their hands dirty today during their Entry Point for Flowers and Insects. The learners examined seeds, cut open aloe vera leaves, dug for worms, and planted seeds and cuttings to create new plants. They spotted lots of different creepy crawlies with the magnifying glasses and had loads of fun exploring outside.

MP3 construct iconic masterpieces

MP3 were busy constructing famous buildings yesterday, as part of their Entry Point for the new unit: The Great Bold and Brave. The learners had to observe the key features of these iconic buildings, think about the purpose of them, consider its structure, and how it may have been built. The learners used cardboard and recycled materials to create their masterpieces, and then reflected on the success of each one.

Book Week

Book Week is one of our favourite weeks of the year at iCAN. It is a chance for our learners to immerse themselves in stories and take the time to escape in a great book (or hopefully lots of different books!). Speaking and listening skills are an integral part of the literacy curriculum as they allow our children to feel that they can verbally share their ideas with confidence. This week both the staff and the learners have been developing their oracy skills and refining their ability to communicate these to others. The children have taken part in book swaps, they have shared stories, listened to bedtime stories, played Guess Who's Reading and joined in with Caught you Reading activities. Friday will be the final day of celebration across the school to conclude our theme of storytelling. Everyone from the Early Years to the Middle Years will partake in the Book Week Parade, where learners and staff will dress up as their favourite book character.
